THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY COLLECTION
THE SEVEN YEARS' WAR 1756-1762 The Seven Years' War was essentially a continuation of an earlier conflict, the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). The principal combatants were still Austria, Britain, France, Prussia, and Russia, but the most important difference was that the Seven Years' War was truly a global war, which was fought in North America, Europe, the Caribbean and India. This became the closest thing to total war, years before the First World War. The most tangible outcome of the war was the end of France's power in the Americas, and the emergence of Great Britain as the most powerful colonial power in the world.
